Alot of women often feel eclipsed by their daughter’s style, especially when their daughter is a head-strong teenager. Its enough to make you feel very verrrryyyyy old when your 16 year old is prancing about in hotpants and an almost-top so here’s some inspiration for how to take one element from a youthful look and make it work for you without feeling less-than.
A quick (or slow for that matter) wander around the shops at this time of year often sees me emitting regular heavy sighs as I drift past row after row of black sparkly dresses and red satin (polyester) halter dresses. The thing about wearing black to a party held at night is that, well, its DARK outside! Time to embrace colour even if its just your shoes, add some texture and pair the outfit with accessories that aren’t the usual colour choice – be the butterfly in a room full of ravens and mix it up a little! Last night I went to a surprise birthday dinner with friends and one of them wore a version of the above outfit. Having played it safe in navy fitted slightly flared pants and a navy light sweater with vintage jewellery I felt I’d been a bit less than brave, so here’s to dressing just as provocatively on a tuesday night as the weekend!
